Adhesives

  • One-Step

One-Step Trowel-On Membrane* is the latest in the energex® series of NextGen products. It is a patented* self-gauging trowel-on membrane that acts as both moisture/air barrier and adhesive. One-Step Trowel-On Membrane* produces a level surface of approximately 1.5 mm thickness of membrane and adhesive with standard hand trowel applications and allows simultaneous installation of drainage insulation. This feature makes waterproofing applications fast and easy, saving labor costs of 25% or more in efficient application of drainage insulation over vapor/air barrier membrane.
UsesOne Step Trowel On Membrane* is used as a trowel applied weather barrier/adhesive over Gypsum sheathing, Dens GlassGold / SECUROCK and sound unpainted exterior grade woodbased sheathings such as plywood and non-veneer boards. For use on other substrates, contact energex® for specific written approval. All Joints must be reinforced with a 4” wide strip of ENERMITE 2.5 mesh.
Surface PreparationSurfaces shall not be below 45° F or painted and must be clean, dry, structurally sound and free of grease or oil. American Plywood Association guidelines must be followed to insure proper installation of the wood based sheathings.
ApplicationOne Step Trowel On Membrane* should be applied directly to the substrate using a stainless steel trowel. Integrated orb technology gauges the coating thickness. By trowel tape the substrate joints with Enermite 2.5 Detail Mesh. Upon completion of joint taping, skim (using the integrated orbs as a gauge) the entire substrate field, making sure there are no voids or thin areas on the surface area. The One Step Trowel On Membrane* is tinted to help with this process. While the One Step is wet place the energex® EPS Foam into the coating in a running bond pattern as per the standard details. Allow 3-6 hours of cure time before rasping the foam boards.
MixingNo mixing is required. Add NO Water!
Job ConditionsTemperature for application of One Step Trowel On Membrane* must be 45° For higher and must remain so for a minimum of 48 hours.

  • EnermixDry

energex® Enermix Dry Powder Mix is a specially formulated cementitious product enriched with polymers. Upon blending with water, an adhesive/embedding mixture is made which is ready for the energex® System.

UsesEnermix Dry is used to adhere insulation board to an approved substrate and to embed reinforcing mesh as part of the base coat of the energex® System. The mixture can also be used as a skim coat to produce a smooth level surface on masonry or concrete.
Surface PreparationApplication is to energex® recommended substrates.

Typically, these include exterior grade gypsum sheathing on either steel or wood studs, clean unpainted concrete, concrete block, brick and stucco. Masonry, concrete and brick substrates must be flat within 1/4" in any four foot radius. For other substrates, please contact the energex® representative. Surfaces must not be below 40 degree F or painted and must be clean, dry, structurally sound and free of efflorescence, grease, oil, form release agents and curing compounds.
Cautions and LimitationsClean potable water must be added to adjust workability. DO NOT OVERWATER!
MixingTo a 50 lb. bag of Enermix Dry Powder Mix, add 1-1/2 gallons of water. Mix in a 5 gallon can with Jiffy Mixer for about 3 minutes until homogenous. Re-temper by adding a small amount of water to achieve the desired workability.
Job ConditionsTemperature for application of Enermix Dry must be 40 ° F or higher and must remain so for a minimum of 24 hours.
StorageEnermix Dry must be stored at 40° F or above in tightly sealed containers out of direct sunlight.
Adhesive ApplicationUsing a stainless steel trowel, install a ribbon of Enermix Dry 2” (51mm) wide wide by 3/8” (10mm) thick around the entire perimeter of the Insulation Board. Place eight dabs of Enermix Dry 3/8” (10mm) thick by 4’ (102mm) in diameter approximately 8” (204mm) on center to the interior area.

Alternatively, a notch trowel may be used to install the ENERMIX DRY on the entire back of the Insulation Board. The 2” (51 mm) wide by 3/8” (10mm) thick ribbon must be installed around the entire perimeter of the board. (CAUTION - Do not install Enermix Dry on the substrate using the notch trowel). Immediately place the Insulation Board on the substrate and slide into position. Do not allow the Enermix Dry to form a skin before positioning the Insulation Board on the substrate.
Embedding ApplicationUse a stainless steel trowel to apply Enermix Dry to the surface of the Insulation Board to a uniform thickness as recommended for the type of reinforcing mesh being installed. Immediately, place the reinforcing mesh against the wet Enermix Dry. The surface of the Enermix Dry is smoothed with a trowel until the reinforcing mesh is fully embedded. The pattern of the mesh must not be visible.
Temporary ProtectionShall be provided at all times until the base coat, finish, and permanent flashings, sealants, etc. are completed to protect the wall from weather and other damage.
Drying TimeThe drying time of the Enermix Dry is dependent upon the air temperature and relative humidity. Under average drying conditions, (70° F, 55% RH), protect work from rain for at least 24 hours.

When used to bound insulation board to an approved substrate, a period of 24 hours must elapse to allow the Enermix Dry to form a positive bond. The insulation board should not be worked on while the Enermix Dry is curing.
Working TimeAfter mixing, the working time of Enermix Dry is approximately one hour depending an ambient conditions.
    Bond Strength(ASTM D-897) - 60 psi (gypsum sheathing), 160 psi (concrete block).
